Lars Friis Mikkelsen leaves Ellegaard Göttingen Minipigs A/S
May 03, 2022
The Board of Directors of Ellegaard Göttingen Minipigs A/S and Lars Friis Mikkelsen have mutually agreed that Lars will resign from his position as CEO of Ellegaard as of May 1st 2022.
Ellegaard has an ambitious strategy to become the largest supplier globally of minipigs for research and it is the joint assessment of the Board of Directors and Lars that another profile is needed to take Ellegaard into this new phase of the strategy.
The Board would like to thank Lars for the splendid work he has done since his appointment in 2015 in raising Ellegaard to a new and stronger level, where we are better prepared to become a global partner for our customers.
Lars has always been at the forefront of boosting Ellegaard to a much stronger scientific profile than we have ever had before. Lars' focus on establishing and commercially developing our Research Services unit has given us some completely unique and very close customer relationships. The collaboration with and connections to our global partners have also been significantly strengthened under Lars’ leadership.
We have appreciated Lars' great commitment and his joy in sharing knowledge about Göttingen Minipigs and building strong networks with our customers - new as well as known customers.
We wish Lars all the best for the future.
Lars says about his time at Ellegaard: “My many years at Ellegaard Göttingen Minipigs A/S have been both a personal and professional educational journey, where I would especially like to thank global colleagues, customers and partners for a fantastic inspiring collaboration and wish everyone the best for the time ahead ”.

Ellegaard Göttingen Minipigs A/S to establish Research Facility in North America
Mar 21, 2022
Ellegaard Göttingen Minipigs A/S is the leading breeder and supplier of Göttingen Minipigs for biomedical research and in addition offers various biomedical research services at our Research Facility in Denmark.
We are pleased to announce our plans to establish a US based Research Facility on the East Coast with the aim of providing a variety of research services, like access to ready-to-use Göttingen Minipigs by supplying pre-conditioned Göttingen Minipigs with pre-implanted catheters, vascular access ports and vascular access buttons or telemetry devices; access to animal model preparation by the development and characterization of diet or surgically induced animal models or exploration of your customized disease models; open lab access to our surgical suite and scientific procedures in your own Göttingen Minipigs; and not least the performance of exploratory pharmacology studies in close collaboration with us as your scientific partner.
Lars Friis Mikkelsen, CEO, Ellegaard Göttingen Minipigs A/S: “We believe that our planned research services at our US based Research Facility will support our customers’ Göttingen Minipigs based research and take it to the next level in a flexible and collaborative way, as already experienced by our customers at our Danish Research Facility. As such we look forward to expanding our services to facilitate the worldwide increased use of Göttingen Minipigs”.
Jens Ellegaard, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Ellegaard Göttingen Minipigs A/S: “Since the foundation of our company, we have always strived to provide not only high quality Göttingen Minipigs, but also a high level of scientific support to our customers. With a Research Facility in North America, we look forward to being much closer to the American research community and to support the growing need for research services and knowledge sharing about the use of Göttingen Minipigs in biomedical research”.
Marshall Bioresources has for more than two decades supplied Göttingen Minipigs to users in North America and with these plans, we strengthen our strategic partnership and Marshall BioResources continue as the exclusive supplier of Göttingen Minipigs in North America.
Scott Marshall, CEO, Marshall BioResources says: “We believe that Ellegaard’s services will add significant value, making the minipigs more research-ready and allowing customers to focus their resources further up the value chain. Marshall’s efforts will remain focused on production and supply of animals to our customers, including the Ellegaard facility once established.“
First shipment of Danish bred Göttingen Minipigs to China
Feb 11, 2022
On February 9, 2022, the first batch of 30 Göttingen Minipigs successfully arrived at Shanghai Pudong International Airport, China, and were transported to Shanghai InnoStar Biotech Co., Ltd.
The import marks the official entry of Danish bred Göttingen Minipigs into the Chinese market.
“In December 2021, we had a successful virtual pre-inspection from the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC), which now allows us to ship Göttingen Minipigs to China,” says Lars Friis Mikkelsen, CEO at Ellegaard Göttingen Minipigs A/S. It is a huge milestone for Ellegaard Göttingen Minipigs and not least for the Chinese research community that for long has requested access to Göttingen Minipigs for biomedical research, Lars Friis Mikkelsen continues.
Göttingen Minipigs are fully recognized as an established animal model by all regulatory authorities worldwide and are valuable large animal disease models because of the many similarities to humans. In addition, Göttingen Minipigs are the preferred minipig breed due to their small size, easiness to handle, and defined genetic and microbiological background plus the huge availability of scientific background data.
“This great achievement has been made possible through an intensive collaboration between our Chinese Country Manager, Jin Liu, and our dedicated team in Denmark and valuable support from several stakeholders in China,” says Lars Friis Mikkelsen.
For more information on deliveries in China and practical questions, please contact Country Manager, Jin Liu, email@example.com, in either Chinese or English and for science related questions, please contact our CSO, Kirsten Rosenmay Jakobsen, firstname.lastname@example.org.
